Vertigo

Many vertigo patterns trace to the upper cervical spine or to inner-ear positioning, both treatable.

About Vertigo

Vertigo (the sensation of spinning or motion) can come from several sources. Cervicogenic vertigo (from the upper neck), BPPV (positional), and Meniere's are the most common patterns we see.

We screen carefully to identify the source. Many cases respond well to specific cervical adjusting and/or repositioning maneuvers (Epley) for BPPV.

Common causes

  • Cervicogenic, upper-cervical joint dysfunction
  • BPPV, displaced inner-ear crystals
  • Meniere's disease (refer to ENT)
  • Vestibular neuritis (refer when indicated)

How we treat it

  • Upper cervical evaluation and adjusting
  • Epley or other repositioning maneuvers for BPPV
  • Vestibular rehabilitation exercises
  • Referral when the cause is medical
