Bursitis

Bursitis is irritation of a fluid-filled cushion in a joint. Most cases respond well to conservative care.

About Bursitis

Bursae are small fluid-filled sacs that cushion bones, tendons, and muscles around joints. When they become irritated, usually from overuse or direct compression, bursitis develops.

Treatment focuses on reducing inflammation, addressing the mechanical pattern that caused it, and progressively re-loading the area.

Common causes

  • Repetitive motion or overuse
  • Direct compression (sleeping or leaning on the joint)
  • Underlying joint dysfunction
  • Sometimes infection (rule out)

How we treat it

  • Soft-tissue release around the affected area
  • Joint mobility and mechanics work
  • Activity and ergonomic adjustments
  • Progressive loading rehab
