Pediatric Care

Considering chiropractic care for your child? Start with an accurate diagnosis, age-specific evidence, and a discussion of risks and alternatives.

About Pediatric Care

Parents considering pediatric chiropractic care in Tampa often have questions about a child's back or neck discomfort, activity, or posture. A child's age and the cause of the concern matter. Evidence from adults cannot simply be applied to infants or children, and an adjustment is not an automatic next step.

Keep your child's pediatrician involved. Feeding difficulties, persistent crying, sleep concerns, illness, and developmental concerns need appropriate medical assessment; do not assume they result from spinal misalignment or delay medical care to try an adjustment.

To discuss an evaluation at Limitless Life Chiropractic, contact the Tampa office and explain your child's age, symptoms, and previous care. Ask which services are appropriate before scheduling. This page provides general decision support, not a diagnosis, a promise of treatment, or a substitute for your child's medical care.

Questions to discuss

  • What is causing the concern, and does it need pediatric medical assessment?
  • What evidence applies to my child's age and specific symptoms?
  • What are the risks and alternatives to the proposed treatment?
  • How will we judge progress and decide when to stop or seek another opinion?

Before arranging a visit

  1. 1

    Describe the concern

Note when symptoms began, any injury, and changes in everyday activity. Share relevant medical history and previous care.

  2. 2

    Ask about suitability

Confirm which ages and concerns the clinician evaluates, their relevant experience, and whether your pediatrician should assess the concern first.

  3. 3

    Discuss the options

Ask for an explanation of the findings, evidence, risks, and alternatives. An appointment does not mean an adjustment is needed.

  4. 4

    Clarify follow-up

Ask how the clinician would coordinate with your child's medical providers and when symptoms should be reassessed.

Evidence & safety

Pediatric chiropractic: evidence, limits, and safety

A Cochrane review of manipulative therapies for infantile colic found small, bias-prone studies and insufficient safety data. The apparent reduction in crying was not statistically significant when analysis was limited to trials in which parents did not know the treatment assignment. The review was published in 2022 but searched studies through 2012; it does not establish an effective or reliably safe colic treatment.

A 2024 international position statement for physiotherapists recommends against spinal manipulation or mobilization for infants under two, and against their use for non-musculoskeletal childhood conditions such as colic, breastfeeding difficulties, and ear infections. It also recommends against neck and lower-back manipulation in children aged 2-12. It distinguishes selected musculoskeletal options for older children and adolescents, but found no high-certainty evidence to recommend pediatric spinal manipulation or mobilization. This is a professional position statement, not a Florida regulation or a statement of this clinic's age policy.

NCCIH notes that spinal manipulation has been associated with rare but serious complications. Describing a technique as gentle does not establish that it is risk-free. Before deciding, discuss the proposed technique, possible benefits and harms, alternatives, and whether another healthcare professional should evaluate the concern.
